Back in 1973, Marlon Brando made headlines when he surprisingly refused to accept his Oscar.
The Hollywood hunk bagged an award for Best Actor for his epic performance as Vito Corleone in The Godfather.
Despite being awarded the amazing accolade, Marlon made the decision to boycott the ceremony, and instead, asked Native American activist Sacheen Littlefeather to go up on stage and refuse the award on his behalf.
The young woman was booed by the audience when she cited "the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry and on television and movie re-runs" as his reason for refusal.
In the full speech released to the press Brando stated: "The motion picture community has been as responsible as any for degrading the Indian and making a mockery of his character, describing his as savage, hostile and evil."
Susan Sarandon gets Oscars ban after HIV speech, 1993

Both Susan and fellow actor Tim Robbins made a furious speech about how HIV-positive Haitians were treated by American society.
Elsewhere, Richard Gere condemned China’s invasion of Tibet during his speech, and as a result, all three Hollywood stars were banned from ever returning to the Academy Awards again.
The producer of the 1993 awards, Gil Gates, was so furious that he stated the three stars could never return to the prestigious ceremony.
Despite the life-long ban, Susan did return just three years later when she won Best Actress.
