After delivering his four-track Before EP, James Blake has returned with his cover of Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

Originally written by British political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, the 1957 folk song was popularized by Flack in the ’70s. Throughout the track, Blake delivers soulful vocals accompanied by emotional piano chords that help express a somber soundscape. Additionally, to accompany the release the English singer-songwriter showcased his vocal prowess in a live performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
