US actor Roy Horan has passed away at the age of 71.

Variety reported that the martial arts enthusiast died after hiking and meditating in the hills near Los Angeles, and that a memorial ceremony will be held for the star on Wednesday.

The actor and film executive, who is the father of actress Celina Jade, passed away on 12 October.

Horan is famous for having starred in Bruce Lee's marital arts films including Deadly Kung Fu in 1975 and Game of Death II (1981).

His first film role came in 1976 when he played Charlie in Bruce Lee's Secret, which he followed up by playing Tolstoy in the 1977 film Snuff Bottle Connection.

He later appeared in Jackie Chan's Snake in the Eagle's Shadow in 1978, where he played an evil Russian Assassin.

His final acting role was in 1991, when he appeared in Shanghai 1920.

After his successful acting career, Horan branched out to become an executive-in-charge of distribution, sales, marketing and international production for Hong Kong's Seasonal Film Corporation.

As a director, Horan created a documentary called The Art of High Impact Kicking.

Horan is survived by his seven sibling as well as his two Asia-based daughters, Celina jade and Jillian Horan.

The star taught meditation in the 90s, and he began an academic career in 1999 when he became a professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design.

At the university, he taught filmmaking and helped create the Multimedia Innovation Centre before researching creative thinking from 2005.

Horan married his wife Christina Hui Din Fun Horan on December 20, 1981.

Roy's daughter Celina is best known for her role in the CW series Arrow, where she plays an archer called Shado (as well as Mei).

In China, she is most famous for starring in the 2017 film Wolf Warrior 2, the highest-grossing Chinese film in history.
