The One Show's Alex Scott has opened up about her romance with fellow England Lioness and Arsenal teammate, Kelly Smith.

The former footballer says she fell "madly and deeply in love" with Kelly who played as a striker for the team.

Alex, 37, is discussing their romance for the first time in her memoir How (Not) To Be Strong but admits she wouldn't change anything.

While she is relatively private, the telly star admits that she almost ruled out writing the chapter of her book about their private relationship but told a crowd at the launch party she would be "cheating" if she left it out", according to The Mirror.

She said: "I went back and forth on whether I'd actually be writing the chapter but then it was one of those moments, I'm writing this book and I want to tell everything.

"I thought I'd be cheating you all if I didn't put that in there and for me, it's like that first love story, I fell madly and deeply in love and yes, there's that heartbreak and those things, but it's a huge part of my life and I wouldn't go back and change that.

"Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.

During the early days of their career, the pair found themselves the subject of speculation due to their friendship after they had bought a house together.

The pair later moved to America together where they played for Boston Breakers.

Her admission comes just days after the sports pundit revealed she's ready to find love again and let her guard down as she reflected on previous relationships.

Speaking to The Times, she said: "I've been single for a while now, and I think that's because I needed to be.

"There were patterns in my relationships that I knew were not healthy, I understand myself more now.

"Before I always had these walls up because I was trying to protect myself and protect people around me."

Alex went on to say that after keeping her guards up, she's ready to "be loved" by somebody.

Last year, the former right-back admitted that she'd set up a dating profile but was struggling to find love as she was "hopeless" on the romance front.
