Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Probably the Worst Neighbors Ever

Ever since their marriage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been the subject of constant controversy. It seems to follow them wherever they go. But is this because Harry and Markle are acting in a selfish and arrogant manner, as the media claims? Or, are they the victims of harassment by the media?

The most recent hysteria has been over a set of rules given to neighbors of the duke and duchess, but their drama started long before that. The rules are so ridiculous that the couple just might top any list for worst neighbors. We’ve put together a quick rundown of the fuss over Frogmore, so you can decide for yourself.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spark drama with the split from Kensington Palace

Before Archie was born, Prince Harry and Markle lived in a small, two-bedroom cottage in the compound of Kensington Palace, alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton. When it was decided they were ready for a larger home, they were first offered Apartment One at Kensington Palace, a luxurious 21-room home. However, they shocked the public when it was announced that instead of moving into Apartment One, Prince Harry and Markle would split from Kensington and move to Frogmore Cottage.

The move away from Kensington immediately sparked rumors of drama between Middleton and Markle. After all, why would Markle want to move away from her sister-in-law unless they didn’t get along? But royal insiders insisted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just needed more space and privacy than Kensington could offer.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s renovations of Frogmore Cottage upset taxpayers

Prince Harry and Markle again became the subject of controversy when it was announced that Frogmore Cottage would require extensive renovations before the couple could move in. In addition, Markle wanted a yoga studio and a guest apartment for her mother.

The public was outraged by the cost of these renovations, much of which would be covered by taxpayers. Royal critics quickly pointed out that the couple had a perfectly suitable home at Kensington, and that the move to Frogmore would require additional security precautions, another expense to the taxpayer.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle insult their neighbors with a list of rules

The outcry over Prince Harry and Markle’s renovations at Frogmore had just settled down, when a new controversy hit the media. Neighbors of Frogmore Cottage claimed they had been given a list of rules to follow regarding the royal couple. Included in the requests, a rule that neighbors were not to speak to Prince Harry or Markle if they were seen around the neighborhood. Not even a friendly “Hello” or “Good Morning” would be tolerated. If the royals spoke to them first, they would be allowed to respond with a simple “Good Morning,” but that was all.

Other rules were that Prince Harry and Markle’s dogs were not to be petted, even if they approached the neighbor, and they must not ask to walk the dog. Neighbors are not allowed to ask about Baby Archie, or offer to babysit. And no one must put anything into the Sussex’s mailbox.

Naturally, those who live around Frogmore were outraged and insulted by the rules. The neighborhood is occupied by top officials and royal staff. These are people that know how to properly behave around a royal, and so the requests were seen as arrogant and plain rude. Even the Queen does not request these types of demands from her neighbors.

When the rules became known to the media, thanks to a special report done by The Sun, Prince Harry and Markle once again became the subject of national upset. Buckingham Palace was quick to issue a response on the Sussex’s behalf. According to the statement, Prince Harry and Markle “didn’t request this, didn’t know about it, and had nothing to do with the content or guidance offered.”

Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to blame for all the controversy?

The rules given to neighbors of Frogmore were blamed on an “over-protective” protection officer, but one has to ask: Why would the officer have thought to issue these rules? Did he know that the duke and duchess were often upset by the small talk of neighbors? Was he trying to be proactive with a solution he assumed they would like because of their previous behavior?

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have been made their wish for privacy very well known. The problem comes when you’re constantly requesting privacy, and yet perfectly happy to take the taxpayers money for costly renovations, and a luxurious lifestyle. Unfortunately, you can’t have both.

The duke and duchess may not have directly contributed to some of the issues causing problems with their image, but their attitude behind the scenes may be to blame. Then again, we can never really know what’s going on behind the closed royal doors.
