Who Is Michelle Young On ‘The Bachelor’? Meet The Teacher Joining Matt James’ Season

A new group of women are expected to join Matt James’ season of The Bachelor tonight and, if the trailer is any indication, the existing contestants aren’t impressed. Still, they—along with the rest of Bachelor Nation—are going to learn about the newbies, whether they like it or not.

One woman that’s getting some early buzz is Michelle Young. Michelle, if you saw the trailer, definitely locks lips with Matt pretty early on, so there’s that.

But what’s her backstory pre-reality TV? Here’s what you need to know about the newest woman competing for Matt’s heart:

Michelle is a teacher.

She works at an elementary school in Minnesota, according to her Bachelor bio, and she “focuses on preparing her students to be the next generation of community leaders.” Apparently, Michelle is really, really dedicated to her job—her bio says she’s an “over-worker.”

She’s been doing the distance learning thing.

Michelle wrote in the comments of one of her Instagram posts that she was doing distance learning with her class, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Making sure to stay balanced during distance learning is a difficult task, but hanging in there!” she wrote.

Michelle has a sporty background.

The Bachelor contestant was a Division I basketball player in college. (Go, Michelle!) She played guard at Bradley University and won all kinds of awards, like being named Player of the Week several times, according to her college bio. She also made the honor roll pretty much the entire time she was in college.

She just started Instagramming.

Several contestants from this season already had big followings coming into filming (ahem, Kit Keenan), but Michelle ~just~ joined. She even joked about it in her first post:

Her first post was in April, and she’s only posted four times—total.Worth noting: Michelle is a teacher, and she may simply have wanted to keep her private life private…until now.

Don’t expect her to have a made-for-TV moment in the hot tub.

This is a direct quote from her Bachelor bio: “Michelle is not into hot tub dates because they are too cliché.” Burn! At least, lucky for her, the hot tub date(s) already happened?

Spoiler alert: Michelle makes it pretty far.

According to Reality Steve, Michelle makes it into the top four (along with Serena Pitt, Rachael Kirkconnell, and Bri Springs). She apparently makes it even further than that: Reality Steve says that Matt’s decision comes down to Michelle and Rachael. But, unfortunately for Michelle, he picks Rachael in the end.

Maybe that means Michelle will teach a whole new crop of men a thing or two as the next Bachelorette?
