You may or may not have watched EastEnders from 1998 until 2002, but if you did you’ll likely remember the character Jamie Mitchell.

The part of Jamie was played by Jack Ryder, but Jamie made a dramatic exit all those years ago and disappeared from our lives.

That was, however, until earlier this year when the talented actor appeared on Loose Woomen, causing viewers to coin him “hot.”

The part of Jamie first popped up in Albert Square in 1998, and he was best known for his on/off relationship with Sonia Fowler, played by Natalie Cassidy.

But what has the 38 year old heartthrob been up to since departing EastEnders?

Well, it seems Jack switched from being in front of the cameras to behind them, and picked up a career in directing.

As well, he has been writing children’s books, including Jack’s Secret Summer, and also popped up in Holby City in 2019.

It seems the star also has a solid love life, and in May the actor announced he was expecting a child with his girlfriend Ella.

Discussing the news during his Loose Women appearance, Jack said: “We are due in July. Ella and I are gushy and over the moon. I always just smile when I talk about it.

“We’re prepared as we can be, but we’ve got toys all around the place and clothes and bits and pieces. Yeah, we’re ready to go.

“We’re very humbled and grateful. It’s going to be an amazing journey.”

Before his relationship with Ella, Jack was married to Coronation Street star Kym Marsh from 2002 until 2009.

Discussing her split from the actor, Kym wrote in her autobiography From the Heart: “When I spotted him I told Myleene Klass, 'He's quite cute – except he looks about 12!' We chatted and he was flirting with me. I kinda liked him too. He had a very honest face and I could sense something between us.

"A few months earlier I'd been a single mum who spent her evenings ironing. Now I was being texted by the hottest soap star in the country."

Kym went on to explain that Jack didn’t drink, writing: "He said he'd got drunk once and it had made him do stupid things and feel sick so he'd decided never to do it again.

"It became clear that not only did Jack not like drinking, but he didn't seem to like other people drinking either. I'd never been a massive boozer but I did enjoy a few glasses of wine or Bacardi and Coke. After we got together, though, I felt I should cut all that out.

"It wasn't long before I figured out that he hated things like premieres and awards ceremonies. So instead Jack and I stayed in most evenings and watched films. There were times when I'd think, 'Here I am, in London in my mid-20s and I could go to any club I wanted, but I'm sitting here watching Star Wars again'.

"Jack never seemed keen on going out, so I never pushed it. Instead we'd just cook our tea then cuddle up on the sofa to watch telly.

"At that time I thought it was brilliant that he was so different to guys I'd met before. Most blokes are only interested in beer, sex and football (not always in that order!) but Jack wasn't like that."
