This is what 70 looks like: Model says resurfacing facials and an anti-pollution cleanser keep her youthful
- Jan Taylor-Strong, who lives in London with her husband, is a part-time model
- 70-year-old spends £245 on a resurfacing facial treatment every once in a while
- She uses a cleanser to combat the pollution that comes with living in the City
Jan Taylor-Strong lives in London with her husband Norman. She has two stepsons in their 40s. After retiring from running a fashion accessory business, she is now a part-time model.
I figured I could do my 60s and 70s gracefully, or I could go in and raise hell. And I decided to do that! At 63, I jumped off a cliff and paraglided in Switzerland. I was so nervous that I wrote my will before I did it. But that feeling of facing my fears was absolutely euphoric. Since then, I’ve also zip-lined in Alaska — and have so much more to tick off my list.
SAVVY SUN PROTECTION
I have lived in the UK my whole adult life. And thank God! When I go home to California and see my contemporaries, their skin looks like leather from sun damage. I wear a hat and religiously apply Garnier Ambre Solaire Super UV Anti Dark Spots & Anti Pollution Face Fluid SPF50+ (£7, boots.com) . I also take Solgar Vitamin D supplements (£25.99, hollandandbarrett.com) for an energy boost.

Every once in a while, I get a resurfacing facial treatment (from £245, drmichaelprager.com). They roll tiny needles over the skin, then inject a hydrating cocktail of vitamins into it and do a light chemical peel. Afterwards, my face is red and puffy — but I’m left feeling lovely and fresh.
As I live in London, I use a good cleanser to combat the pollution. I use Bioderma Micellar Water (£11, boots.com) because it doesn’t make my skin feel dry. I keep using it until the cotton pad comes away clean.
I’ve recently started to wear more make-up and have had a spectacular reaction from my husband! I love Make Up Intelligence by Gary Cockerill, as its very hydrating, so good for older skin. The Illuminate Hydrate and Mattify Primer (£38, makeupintelligencegc.com) gives a real boost. Plus, the Cover Conceal and Correct (£42) helps to add a glow. And the Autumn Glow Eyeshadow Palette (£38), with dark greens and golds, makes my eyes stand out.
