Tesco reduces price of fuel with cost of petrol down by 6.5p per litre

Supermarket giant Tesco has reduced the cost of petrol following criticism drivers weren't getting a fair deal.

The popular chain cut the price of petrol by 6.5p a litre and diesel by 4.5p, it has been reported.

It comes as Asda slashed prices on Friday meaning drivers will pay an average 174p for unleaded and 185p for diesel.

Sainsbury's and Morrisons also decreased costs at forecourts over the weekend too.

According to latest government figures, the average price of petrol was 186.67p and for diesel it's 195.91p.

Tesco has a total of 600 filling stations across the UK, to find your nearest you can check the supermarket's locator tool.

Tesco chief product officer Ashwin Prasad said: "We know how tough rising fuel bills have been for households across the UK, and so we hope that these price cuts will go some way to help – particularly as more families head out on their summer holidays this week."

Prices at petrol stations across the country have finally started to drop after pressure on retailers.

The AA said the price changes could see the cost of a tank drop by £10 within a fortnight.

Experts have advised motorists to look out for independent petrol stations who are under-cutting big names with smaller prices.

It comes as a petrol station owner revealed he's selling the "cheapest fuel" with costs 27p less than average.

The Texaco petrol station in Greater Manchester has been praised for supporting the local community with its lower prices.

Owner Hassan Mohammed has been determined to keep costs down which he claims are 27p cheaper than his rivals.

Hassan's kind gesture has been praised online, with drivers flooding to the station's Facebook page.
