Tennis star Naomi Osaka, 21, is hailed a ‘class act’ by celebrity fans after she invited Coco Gauff to join her post-match interview despite knocking the 15-year-old out of the US Open
- Current number one seed Naomi, 21, told Coco, 15, she’d been ‘amazing’
- Osaka had just thrashed Gauff 6-3, 6-0 in 65 minutes in the fourth round
- A tearful Coco was packing up her belonging when Naomi came to console her

Tennis champion Naomi Osaka melted hearts as she welcomed 15-year-old Coco Gauff to join her in her own winners’ interview at the US Open.
Just moments after the Japanese player beat the American teen in straight sets in the fourth round, she wandered over to console her and say how amazing she had played.
Celebrities including actress Jennifer Garner, Ellen DeGeneres, Billie Jean King, and US politician Alexandria Ocasi- Cortez among others took to social media to praise Naomi for being ‘a class act’ for her sportsmanship.
The current number one seed then told Coco that the crowd ‘are here for you’ as they walked over to do the post-match interview together.

During the post-match interview Coco thanked Naomi for being so welcoming and the pair embraced in a warm hug

‘Do you want to do the interview together? These people are here for you,’ Naomi could be heard telling a tearful Coco.
The teenager, who beat Venus Williams at Wimbledon earlier this summer, tentatively asked: ‘Are you sure? I’m gonna cry.’
‘No you’re good! Look you’re amazing seriously,’ came 21-year-old Osaka’s response.
She told the crying youngster not to hold back her tears: ‘I think it’s better than going into the shower and crying.
‘We have to let these people know how you feel,’ she added.
After beating the 15-year-old in straight sets, Naomi went over to ask Coco to join her in an interview and address the US Open crowd
An emotional Coco was crying as Naomi encouraged her not to hide her tears and tell everyone how she felt after the match loss
The clip of the pair was reposted by celebrities across social media gushing over Naomi being so considerate.
American TV presenter Ellen said on Twitter: Congratulations @naomi_osaka_, @cocogauff you’re a great player and great sport. Naomi, you’re a class act. I still play with the racket you gave me, but it hasn’t helped.’
Former tennis champ Billie Jean King said: ‘Congratulations to @naomi_osaka_, who showed greatness on and off the court. @CocoGauff now knows what she needs to do to get to No. 1. How fortunate we all are to have witnessed the dawning of a new era in women’s tennis.’

Naomi and Coco embraced as the match winner went on to praise Coco’s parents across the court: ‘You guys raised an amazing player, I remember I used to see you guys as us and for me like the fact that both of us made it and we’re both still working as hard as we can and I think it’s incredible, and I think you guys are amazing, I think Coco you’re amazing.’
