Teens TikTok account shut down as her acne branded gruesome content

A teen beauty queen claims her TikTok account shut down because her acne was branded as "gruesome content".

Eva, 16, from Easingwold, North Yorkshire, said the decision made her determined to challenge perceptions about the common skin condition.

According to BBC, TikTok said it had reviewed the decision and reinstated the account.

However, Eva has still chosen to speak out about the move.

"Just because you have blemishes on the outside, it doesn't mean you are not beautiful," she told BBC Radio York.

Eva revealed she created the TikTok account to offer encouragement and advice to others because acne "doesn't define who you are".

However, her initial account was deleted without any warning as it had apparently failed to meet the company's guidelines.

The teen said she wrote an email to the company, and didn't let the situation discourage her.

"I didn't let it bring me down and I created the account again the next day and made it even better," she added.

In a statement, TikTok said it was driven to provide a "platform for creative authentic self-expression".

"We are open about the fact that we don't get every moderation decision right and have reinstated Eva's account," a spokesperson said.

"We hope Eva continues to use TikTok to offer encouragement and advice to others, and to share her story."

Eva said she had suffered from acne for more than two years.

"I used to have really cystic acne all over my face, it went from my cheeks down to my chin," she said.

"It was really bumpy and it was really hard to cover up."

Eva said she initially let the acne get her down and she didn't even want to leave the house.

However, after medical treatment helped the situation, she said she decided to share her journey.

"My aim is for people to be aware that non-clear skin is normal," she said.

Eva is currently Miss Teen Galaxy York and is set to compete in the national finals in March.

She also won the UK Junior Miss competition, holding the title up until July 2022.

Eva says her acne had never been an issue within the pageant world, which she describes as 'very inclusive'.

If she is successful in March, she will compete at an international level in the US.
