Working with the lunar cycle helps you to stay on track with your goals and better yourself because you have two defined points each month to reflect and make plans – the New Moon and Full Moon. Moon rituals enhance the Moon magic because they involve really focussing on what you want to achieve and setting steps to follow to make sure you get there, they’re essentially magical forms of manifestation and affirmations. Express.co.uk chatted to Moon Mentor and author of Lunar Living: Working with the Magic of the Moon Cycles, Kirsty Gallagher @kirsty_gallagher_ on Instagram) and Semra Haksever, author of Mama Moon’s Book of Magic and Everyday Magic: Rituals, Spells & Potions to Live your Best Life (to name just a few) to find out how to celebrate the Sagittarius Full Moon Lunar Eclipse with rituals.
The Sagittarius Full Moon is all about moving forward towards your most authentic and free self by releasing what is holding you back and setting intentions for summer.
More generally, Full Moons differ from New Moons because they are more about letting go and shedding the old to make room for what’s coming on the New Moon.
Kirsty said: “The Full moon is the moment of completion and release.
“Under the Full Moon, hold a celebration ritual of all that came true or all you achieved during the waxing phase of the Moon
“Do something that feels like it celebrates you and your work through the first part of the cycle.”
Here are four ways to mark the occasion, according to Moon Mentor Kirsty Gallagher and eclectic witch and healer Semra Haksever.
The most important thing to do on any lunar event is to reflect on what’s passed and what you want to happen next.
Kirsty explained: “Get clear on where you are at this stage in the lunar month and what you need to release during the waning Moon.
“Once you have done this, you can create some Waning-Moon affirmations and light your candle.”
In her book, Lunar Living: Working with the Magic of the Moon Cycles, Kirsty suggests the following affirmations on a Full Moon:
- What are the main emotions I have been experiencing in the run-up to this Full Moon?
- Since the last New Moon, what has shifted for me?
- What has moved me towards the goals I set myself on this New Moon?
- What has stood in the way or felt difficult? (This is what you need to process under this Full Moon, to shine a light on and release)
You can also write down actions you’ll take in the Waning Moon to help release what is standing in your way and chant few affirmations that suit this.
The Moon Mentor added: “Sagittarius Full Moons are about releasing what binds you and stops you from being free, tying up loose ends and noticing where you are repeating bad patterns, and declaring your intentions for summer.
“Your intentions and affirmations should ideally start with ‘I aim’, for example ‘I aim my vision towards my goals and dreams’ or ‘I aim to fulfil my potential and soul’s calling’.”
The Full moon is the time we release all that stands in the way, so releasing and burning rituals are powerful around the time.
Kirsty explained: “Write down all that you want to release and let go of in your life and burn it (safely!) under the power of the Full Moon.
“You can also release rituals around trapped emotions or limiting self-beliefs.
“Write each thing on a separate piece of paper – then hold each piece to your heart, one at a time, and state what you want to release, before setting it alight and dropping it into a fireproof dish, feeling the fire burn away all that you want to let go of.
“Breathe deeply, exhale out of your mouth, visualising that you are letting go of all that needs to be released.
“When you have finished, gently blow out your candle and imagine that you are fully releasing all that you need to let go of.”

If you’ve got a stash of crystals at home, now is the perfect time to cleanse and charge them up.
Kirsty said: “Make sure you put them outside or on a window place so they can soak in the powerful lunar energies.”
You can hold the relevant crystals for what you want to focus on during your affirmations and spells.

Modern eclectic witch Semra Haksever recommends doing spells on a Full Moon and has a specific one for each sign.
On a Sagittarius Full Moon, Semra notes: “It is likely that you might be wondering what your life purpose is and you may find yourself questioning your destiny.
“This Moon has a habit of inspiring holidays, travel and adventures. It is a time for growth and expansion.
“Allow this Moon to remind you that it isn’t so important to always be right – when you let go of certain beliefs, things can just fall into place and the greatest energy shifts happen.
“When the Universe sees us let go it has a knack of sending opportunities our way.”
She recommends using the following spell to “open your mind and the road ahead”.
You will need:
- A pinch of dried rosemary
- A pinch of thyme
- A pinch of peppermint
- A mortar and pestle
Blend the ingredients with a mortar and pestle, in a clockwise direction, asking for the spell to open doors and guide you.
You’ll need to burn the spell mix on a hot charcoal disc, hold the disc with a small pair of tongs or tweezers and hold it over a flame for 15 to 20 seconds or until it starts sparking.
Then, place the desk in a heatproof dish filled with salt or sand or an incense burner, heatproof ceramic dish or cast-iron cauldron.
Place the spell blend onto the burning disc bit by bit until the disc is fully burnt after about 30 minutes – be aware, this will give off lots of smoke so make sure you are away from a smoke alarm.
Semra recommends saving the remains for the next New Moon and disposing of it at a crossroads that leads in four directions because that’s what you do with smell remnants regarding new opportunities.
