It was recently claimed by Mike’s father that his grandmother was “dead against” the wedding. He made the revelation in an interview with The Sunday Times.
“Linda’s mum was dead against it,” Philip Tindall said. “In her day, royalty married royalty and she thought the wedding would be shunned.”
This may come as a shock to many, as it’s assumed most grandparents would dream of their relatives marrying into the Royal Family.
However, a body language expert has claimed it’s “easy to understand.”
Judi James, who has provided her expert analysis to BBC News, Sky News, CNN and Big Brother among others, gave her professional opinion to Express.co.uk.
She said: “It is easy to understand why Mike’s grandmother had qualms about the relationship between a royal and a non-royal.
“Zara might not have been the first royal to marry outside the royal family but Mike was still pretty ground-breaking. Other non-royal partners like Mark Philips, Tim Lawrence, Kate, Sophie and even Fergie still looked like a royal ‘fit’, thanks to either their existing closeness to the Firm or the ease of which they blended in thanks to some traditional, more submissive body language behaviours.”
However, his grandmother needn’t have worried.
Judi went on: “Mike though was more like a human bath-bomb: an obsequious-free zone; an energetic, fun-loving sporting hero used to being captain of the boisterous England rugby team; a macho alpha in his own world and a guy who looked hilariously unsuited to the formal, emotionally-suppressed life of the Royal Family.”
Mark and Zara have been married for a long time, and seem very happy together.

Their similar interest in competitive sports may well have set them up to complement one another well.
Mike and Zara have two children, daughters Mia and Lena.
Mia, who is 19th in line to the throne, was born on 17 January 2017 at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, close to where the family lives.
Lena was born in June 2018 at the Stroud Maternity Hospital.
The two adorable children can be seen with their parents often at events.
The couple married on 30 July 2011 in Edinburgh at the Canongate Kirk, just a few months after Kate and William.
They now live together near Zara’s mother Princess Anne. While initially, they lived in a £1.2 million home in Cheltenham.
However, they sold the home in 2013 to moved to the Gatcombe Park estate, where Anne lives with her husband Timothy Laurence.
Zara Tindall and Prince Charles also have a close and intriguing relationship, according to the expert.
Judi said: “The body language dynamic between Zara and her uncle Charles has been giving joy for many years.
“If you were to place all the royals on some sliding scale of PDAs and tactile behaviour in public you’d see Charles close to one end as a rather hands-off, stuffy-looking kind of a guy while Zara would sit firmly at the other end as the most spontaneous and gloriously-gregarious-looking royal adult.
“Put the two together and you might expect Zara to tone her playfully affectionate rituals down with her uncle.
“But instead she seems intent on cutting through any formal stuff by instigating some very dominant-looking hugs that seem to both surprise and delight the Prince.”
