Britney Spears has explained to fans why she is posing nude in her topless Instagram posts.

And a body positivity influencer says the message behind it is "very clever".

In an image uploaded to the social media site yesterday, Toxic hitmaker Britney can be seen wearing white bikini bottoms and red knee high boots – covering her breasts with her hands so the photo does not violate Instagram’s community guidelines.

The 39-year-old has shared a fair amount of semi-nude content recently, with a previous video and two photographs showing the singer cupping her bare breasts while wearing denim shorts.

In the latest photo’s caption, Britney explains that in her career she routinely performed with exposed skin – and it had a negative effect on her body image.

But now she's feeling reborn.

She said: “I mean I don’t want anybody to see the big dimple on my ass but I feel like performing made me too self conscious about my body and that’s not attractive.

“Anyways I bet you’re wondering why I’d expose my body NOW … well it’s because I was born into this world naked and I honestly feel like the weight of the world has been on my shoulders and it’s made me view myself that way !!!!

“I wanted to see myself in a lighter way … naked … like the way I was born and to me looking back at my pictures when I shoot it’s insane the psychology in seeing myself in my purest form gives evidence that pain … hurt … tears … and heavy burdens aren’t who I am.

“I am a woman …. a beautiful … sensitive woman who needs to look at myself in my purest form!!!”

The images follow the newsBritney’s father Jamie has agreed to step down as her conservatorafter 13 years.

During a recent court appearance, Britney spoke out about how her reproductive rights were monitored and controlled by her dad.

She claimed she was forced to keep her contraceptive coil in, despite wanting it removed so she could have more children.

Body positivity influencerMollie Quirk, 23, said: “Britney's latest Instagram post is incredibly empowering. People may think it's odd or weird, but she is promoting being 'free' from so many things including her conservatorship as well as negative body image; she's promoting being happy in your own skin and learning to love every inch.

“I think the posts of her showing off her skin and being comfortable in her own body aren't just empowering and inspiring, but they're also very, very clever.

“The photos are almost like part of the 'Free Britney' campaign, which I think is clever because her followers will subliminally take in the message without it being explicitly about her conservatorship.”

Britney’s post is the latest in a series of body positivity posts shared to social media by celebrities.

Last week, Love Island contestant Shannon Singh launching the 'I Love Mine' campaign.

The reality TV show star is encouraging her followers to post a positive message about themselves on a daily basis.

Shannon said: “Whether it be you celebrating your kindness, your creativity, your eyes, your good hair day, the birthmark you've always loathed – post something unique to you that you might not have always shown kindness to in the past.

“This is about us embracing ourselves and encouraging positive conversation about ourselves.”
