Shocking footage shows a driver smash into the back of a car carrying a BBC presenter and her children.

Annie McGuire's dash cam clip shows the Ford pick-up trip approach at speed behind before, taking a sharp turn to the right – narrowly avoiding a white car in the neighboring lane.

It then crashes into the back of the BBC Scotland presenter's car before driving away.

Mrs McGuire said the crash on the M1 near Sheffield, South Yorkshire last night, gave her the "fright of her life", in a Twitter post in which she shared the terrifying footage.

She captioned the clip: “I’m going to post this. We got the fright of our lives so excuse some swearing. Worth watching the second vid to see the way they drive off.

"So so glad children are okay. M1 near Sheffield/Barnsley. Unlikely anyone knows this driver but please get in touch if you do.”

The clip shows Annie’s car driving along the motorway in the left lane.

As the truck gets nearer it appears to attempt an overtake into the middle lane despite there being another vehicle there – resulting in it smashing in Mrs Maguire's car.

As it hit Annie's car screaming can be heard from inside and a man shouts “holy s***.”

The white vehicle manages to retain control and veers into the right hand lane as Annie pulls into the hard shoulder.

The front view from the camera shows the truck attempting to keep control as it heads off along the motorway despite the crash.
