IS the Arsenal title challenge coming off the rails? They’ll aim to put it back on track with a home win over rock-bottom Southampton on Friday night.

Arsenal vs Southampton betting preview

Back-to-back draws – both from positions of great strength – have dented Arsenal’s title bid but, crucially, their destiny remains in their own hands.

Next week’s ‘title decider’ at Manchester City is now looming large but, at the moment, they can afford to go there and draw and still have control of the title race.

For that to remain the case, they’ll need to see off a Southampton side who sit bottom of the table and four points from safety.

Their need for points is great and while they’ve not won in six, the good news is that their away record is better than their home one with four games won on their travels.

Still, they will be up against it here.

Despite Arsenal’s confidence having taken a knock after those 2-2 draws at Liverpool and West Ham, the Gunners have been rock solid at home with 12 wins gained from their 15 matches at the Emirates.

On home turf, they have a 100% record against sides in the bottom half of the table. That stat would actually read ‘against sides outside the top four’ had they not been stitched up by a bad VAR call against Brentford.

There is certainly no need to panic. While losing a two-goal lead in successive games is disappointing, Arsenal would probably have taken a point at Anfield had it been offered, while a derby at a West Ham side fighting their own big battle was never going to be easy.

With their fans behind them once more, Arsenal should have too much quality for Southampton.

They are short price to get that victory they crave but there’s a way of getting with them at much bigger odds. Read on to find out how to back them.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score

It’s a pretty remarkable fact that 10 of Arsenal’s 12 home league wins this season have seen the opposition find the net – their title bid has been based on attacking strength at home, not the defence.

While Southampton sit bottom and have only managed nine away goals so far, the fact that the Gunners have conceded against Leicester, Leeds and West Ham at the Emirates is encouraging for followers of this trend.

This is a bet we’ve featured before on these pages – it landed recently in that game against Leeds – but we make no apologies for putting it up again given the price.

Granit Xhaka over 0.5 shots & James Ward-Prowse over 1.5 tackles

This double isn’t a massive price but it’s one which still looks bigger than it should be.

Xhaka’s more attacking role this season has resulted in more goals and more shots. He’s managed at least one in eight of his last nine games (all competitions) and now faces the bottom club.

As for Ward-Prowse, he’s likely to be busy dealing with the forward runs of Xhaka and Martin Odegaard. He’s made at least two tackles in seven of his last eight starts.

The double pays even money.

Gabriel Magalhaes to score at any time

A look at the set-piece statistics reveal only Bournemouth have conceded more goals from them than Southampton this season.

So, if Arsenal do manage to get back in the groove which has seen them score at least three goals against all the teams in the bottom half they’ve faced at the Emirates, then Gabriel has to have a good chance of getting among them.

He’s managed a header at goal in six of his last seven starts for the Gunners.

Expect another here – and it could reward at a tasty price.
