The popular £149 Aldi egg chair was restocked in the early hours of Sunday morning. Once again, the uber popular wicker chair was snapped up by eager shoppers and 87,000 got stuck in an online queue.

A message on the Aldi website read: “You’re in the queue…We’re very sorry, but there are currently lots of people trying to access the Aldi website. We’ve automatically placed you in a queue. Don’t worry about refreshing – this page will update automatically as soon as you can enter the site.”

The chair was tipped to be on sale at 5am on Easter Sunday but it didn’t become available until 8am and was sold out by 8.15am.

Many shoppers were disappointed. One joked that it was the “worst Easter egg hunt” and another complained: “If anyone deserves a hanging egg chair it’s me so you can all get off the Aldi website and let me buy it.”

A third joked: “All this Aldi hanging egg chair madness is a sure sign of a society that has lost its way,” and another said: “Getting a hanging egg chair from Aldi is harder than getting a PS5.”

The elusive chair has been in demand since it was released last month. For the launch, as many as 35,000 people were stuck in a virtual queue and were given a waiting time of around an hour just to gain access to the Aldi website.

Due to high demand, Aldi even restricted stock of the online-exclusive chair to one item per customer. One customer wrote: “Aldi, you know these are popular, just buy a lot so everyone can buy one!”

Another wrote: “Site froze immediately and would not allow me to put in basket Grrrr!”

The lucky ones who managed to get their hands on the chair were ecstatic. One said: “I’ve had a broken night of sleep waking up every 30 minutes to refresh the website to make sure I stayed in the queue but I FINALLY GOT MYSELF THE ALDI EGG CHAIR!!!!!!!”

Luckily, Aldi has confirmed the chair will be back in stock in the coming weeks and shoppers can subscribe to be notified when it is back on sale.

For those not willing to wait, here are some alternatives available at other retailers.
