Winamp Has Been Revived

Winamp has just received its first update (5.9 RC1 Build 9999) in four years. The Nullsoft-founded MP3 software was created in 1997 and had over 60 million users in 2001. Winamp was sold to AOL in 1999 for $80 million USD and then later acquired by Radionomy in 2014.

Many from the Winamp era will remember the player for its versatility in playing different formats and the numerous cool skins available for download. While the software is past its heyday, eclipsed by modern-day streaming services like Spotify, its current website indicates that they have taken up an NFT initiative and are “building Winamp for the next-generation.” Head over to the new website to learn more.
