Saucony Utilizes Pineapple Alternative to Leather For Eco-Friendly Capsule

05/03/2022

This season Saucony is taking its sustainability efforts to the next level by unveiling its “Saucony RFG Pack”, an eco-friendly footwear capsule comprising updated takes on the Jazz Court, Shadow 6000 and Jazz 81.

The label — which recently dropped a tropical-colored Grid Azura 2000 — has utilized nature’s waste, and created each sneaker in the “RFG Pack” with Piñatex, a by-product of pineapple farming that’s been transformed into a plant-based alternative to leather.

Each upper boasts Piñatex® panels which have been fused together using recycled fabrics, along a partially plant-based mesh and hemp laces, resulting in an earth feel to each style. Arriving in shades of “Sage” and “Artichoke”, each sneaker is rounded out with a pineapple on the tongue — a nod to the roots of Piñatex®.

The Jazz Court RFG is available to buy now, while the Jazz 81 RFG and Shadow 6000 RFG both look set to drop via the Saucony webstore on July 1.
