Salehe Bembury Teases His Fourth New Balance Collaboration

Salehe Bembury has taken to his Instagram Stories to offer a teaser of his fourth collaboration with New Balance. Though only a small portion of the design is visible in the teaser post, it’s clear to see that the new style forgoes the vibrant color schemes of Bembury’s past three New Balance collaborations — the New Balance 2002R “Peace Be the Journey,” the New Balance Test Run Project 3.0 “Finders Keepers” and the New Balance 2002R “Water Be the Guide” — in favor of a more muted, earthy look.

The most interesting detail from Bembury’s teaser post is a “Yurt” hit on the tongue. Yurts are portable, round tents often used by nomadic groups in Central Asia, so this choice of verbiage may indicate that the shoe is outdoor-themed. From a construction standpoint, the shoe features a ripstop tongue trimmed with shaggy suede, an upper that’s split between various shades of gray mesh and suede, a “Salehe Bembury” tag and a classic silver midfoot N logo.

Though it’s impossible to tell exactly what model is being teased, New Balance has a habit of letting its collaborative partners establish a distinct visual language with multiple collaborations on a specific silhouette — hence Bembury’s above-mentioned duo of efforts on the 2002R. “Over the past couple of years, [New Balance] has had success building equity by letting specific partners work on the same model — similar to sequels or trilogies within the film industry,” New Balance’s Senior Manager of Global Collaborations and Energy Joe Grondin told HYPEBEAST in a June feature on Bembury’s “Water Be the Guide” collaboration. “When the first release is a hit, there’s often more to explore in the same theme.”

Currently, there’s no release date, pricing information or even official name announced for this Salehe Bembury x New Balance collaboration. However, more details are likely to trickle out in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere in the world of New Balance, the brand recently crafted a special 997H for the Italian football club AS Roma.
