Kanye West's futuristic housing project is torn down09/10/2019
Kanye West’s futuristic housing project has suffered a major setback.
The rapper, 42, had envisioned building a set of dome-shaped houses that pretty much looked like something from the set of Star Wars for his YEEZY HOME social housing project.
Work had been well underway, but TMZ reports Kanye’s quirky new housing in Calabasas has now been destroyed.
The publication claims the housing prototypes were demolished following orders imposed by the LA County Department of Public Works due to violating the building code.
It’s claimed Kanye didn’t have the proper permits to build the prototypes, so a tear-down process is in full swing to take the housing down.
Metro.co.uk have reached out to Kanye’s rep.
The project, that comprised of wooden spaceship-like structures, had been building close to where Kanye and wife Kim Kardashian own a $60million (£49million) mega-mansion.
HypeBeast previously reported that the homes were to be made of prefabricated concrete components, with the aim being that the completed houses will be available and affordable to those on low incomes.
Kanye had publicised his housing project when he called for creatives to join his team.
He wrote: ‘We’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better.’
But while his YEEZY HOME project may now be on the back-burner, Kanye is actively pursuing another dream of his and snapped up a ranch in Wyoming for $14million (£11.3million).
It’s believed he’s now the owner of The Monster Lake Ranch, a ‘huge chunk of land’ that sits just outside Cody, Wyoming.
His new purchase coincidentally came after Kim revealed in an interview with Vogue Arabia that she wants to settle down on (yep, you guessed it) a ranch in Wyoming with her family in 10 years time.
She was interviewed by Kanye for the cover, who asked where she sees herself in a decade.
Kim replied: ‘I see us living on a ranch in Wyoming, occasionally going to Palm Springs and our home in Los Angeles – and becoming a lawyer.’
Looks like Kanye’s got it covered.
