CHAANCE Channels The Evergreen Aesthetic of ‘90s Nostalgia for FW2103/15/2021
Transitioning adversity into opportunity to become one of the most influential eras, Korean label CHAANCE celebrates the perseverance of ‘90s street culture. Previously enlisting the artist — YK Osiris for its inaugural editorial, the streetwear brand unveils its Fall/Winter 2021 collection having debuted virtually during New York Fashion Week.
Witnessing the willingness of high-fashion brands to embrace a more casual-street aesthetic, CHAANCE’s latest release fuses elements of luxury with thriving street culture, aiming to etch a new chapter in fashion. Covering everything from its silhouettes to patterns, the collection embodies this ’90s inspired nostalgia. Crop tops and matching sweats, dark-wash denim dungarees with contrasted embroidered branding, leather vests and vibrant Coogi-meets-Pollock graphics transcend the iconic fits of hip-hop greats into 2021.
Created by videographer Carlos Serrao, CHAANCE’s FW21 visuals serves as an ode to the birthplace of hip-hop. Split into two chapters; A Slice of Life provides a sectional view of a typical NYC apartment block depicting the various lifestyles of the community, from art to breakdance. Smoothly transitioning into the second chapter, Vibe 97 is a vivid display of the brand’s inspiration with the photoshoot’s visual aesthetic reminiscent of iconic fashion editorials from the era.
The lookbook also finds itself channeling the go-to lifestyle of that period. Set amongst the concrete-clad industrial backdrop, chess-games and large-canvas paintings adorn the laidback visuals.
