YouTuber and social media star Ray Diaz arrested on suspicion of sexual assault07/13/2019
Social media star Ray Diaz has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
The 33-year-old was arrested by the Los Angeles Police following an investigation into allegations sparked by a clip being shared on social media, which detailed some of the alleged abuse against a teenage girl.
On Thursday, the LAPD tweeted: ‘The LAPD is aware of several social media posts related to a social media personality, alleging physical abuse and sexual relations with a minor. We take these allegations seriously.
‘Currently, the Department has directed a group of investigators to look into these allegations.’
At the time, Diaz was not named, but the following day, the LAPD confirmed that the actor and YouTuber had been arrested.
They tweeted: ‘After a thorough investigation, LAPD Detectives from the elite Robbery-Homicide Division Special Assault Section arrested 33 yr old social media personality “Ray Diaz” for sexual assault in San Diego, CA, w/ the assistance of San Diego PD.’
The LAPD added that Ray’s bail had been set at $500,000 (£397,000), and referred to him as his full name, Raymundo Diaz.
Diaz was arrested at around 5am on Friday, 13 July in San Diego.
Police chief Michael Moore tweeted: ‘We thank the public for their outpouring of concern regarding this case. We are better when we share the responsibility of making sure every member of our community is safe.
‘Proud of our elite RHD who pursued this relentlessly. Their work brings a small measure of justice.’
Diaz has over 300,000 subscribers on YouTube, and regularly posts workout videos and fitness advice.
The influencer also has over 3 million Instagram followers, although his account is currently private.
On his bio, Diaz describes himself as an ‘entrepreneur, creator and fitness lover’, and promotes his work with the app Fitplan – although the link he provides no longer exists.
The website I Am Ray Diaz listed on his Twitter bio has also been made private.
As well as being a social media star, Diaz had had a number of acting roles, including appearances in the George Lopez series Lopez and the Zeus Network (a streaming platform aimed at fanbases of influencers) series Sober Coach.
