Ulrika Jonsson has said Victoria Beckham’s diet makes her “want to weep” after the former Spice Girl revealed her favourite foods.
Fashion designer Victoria admitted she’s “boring in the food department” and is a restaurant’s “worst nightmare” in an interview on River Café’s Table 4 podcast. She also said one of her favourite foods is wholemeal toast with salt, and that she always orders steamed vegetables when she goes out to eat.
Ulrika has now reacted to Victoria’s confession, saying that the revelation makes her “want to weep” and that its a “tragic waste”, considering Victoria has the means to afford tastier foods.
“I know over the years Victoria Beckham has had to face much public scrutiny and speculation about her size and weight,” Ulrika wrote in The Sun.
"I don't wish to add to her woes but to hear the ex-Spice Girl talk in a podcast about how she is sure she's every restaurant's worst nightmare as she likes simple meals – salt on toast or steamed vegetables – made me want to weep into my fry-up.
"And to hear that someone in Victoria's position, who can afford the best food, best produce and best chefs, limits herself to salt on toast feels like a tragic waste.
“I just can’t get my head around the concept of not yearning for deliciousness or dreaming of enticing meals.
"The fact Mrs Beckham insists on wholegrain toast, I guess, shows she's not entirely devoid of a bit of adventure," Ulrika continued.
But it’s not just bread and steamed veg that make up Victoria’s eating habits – the 47-year-old went on to explain in the podcast that she even steers clear of any butter, oils or sauces because she doesn’t like them.
"This is where I sound even more boring in the food department,” Victoria explained.
”I like whole grain toast with salt on it. It’s that carbohydrate that makes you feel comforted and I love salt.
"To most restaurants, I’m probably their worst nightmare. I love some steamed vegetables, some balsamic vinegar and then to season myself," Victoria said.
"I like things to be cooked in a very simple way. I don’t like oils or butters or sauces.”
The star has been known to have some strict diet and exercise habits.
In 2019 she told The Telegraph that she eats three to four avocados a day because she "read that the key to glowing skin is consuming the right amount of fats”.
She also exercises for two hours every day and sweet treats like cake are strictly off the menu – each year Victoria gets a ‘cake’ made of fruit instead.
A source previously told Heat magazine that she only plans to lift the ban for a slice of cake on her 50th birthday.
"When she says she hasn’t been near a carb – by which she means a refined one – in ages, she’s not joking.
”It’s a practically banned word for her," the insider said.
