The Truth About Miley Cyrus And Noah Cyrus’s Relationship

The Cyrus family has been in the spotlight ever since Billy Ray Cyrus burst onto the country music scene with his hit single, “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992, and although Billy Ray blazed the trail for his very musically inclined family, it’s no secret that his daughter, Miley Cyrus, who got her big break in Disney’s “Hannah Montana,” is the most successful artist in the Cyrus family.

That’s not to say Billy Ray’s other kids aren’t insanely talented in their own ways, though. There’s Trace, who was the frontman and guitarist for the pop-punk band Metro Station (via Wide Open Country); Braison, a folk singer and cranberry farmer; Brandi, a singer, DJ, designer, and editor of Style Native, who also co-hosts Bravo’s “Cyrus vs. Cyrus: Design and Conquer” with mom Tish; and Noah, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter who was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys this year and is the youngest of the Cyrus kids.

Noah Cyrus has said that being Miley's sister is 'unbearable'

During an Instagram Live last year, the “I Got So High I Saw Jesus” singer opened up about her new EP, “The End of Everything,” and revealed what it was like growing up in Miley’s shadow her whole life. “Being born in the family I was in, everybody gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister, but I always felt like I was that person that no one gave a s*** about due to what people said to me online,” she said (via Harper’s Bazaar).

“It was absolutely unbearable,” she continued, adding, “And that’s why I write, ‘My sister’s like sunshine / Always bringing good light wherever she’ll go / And I was born to rain clouds / Blessed in her shadows.’ Because that’s why everybody always says to me, that no matter what, I was going to be in that shadow. And I always believed that, and that’s so hard for me to overcome.”

Noah also got candid about growing up in Miley's shadow during an interview with Zach Sang

In an interview with Zach Sang, Noah opened up about the “bad sides” of growing up with a famous dad and sister, telling the radio host, “There were bad sides to growing up as Miley Cyrus’s little sister, and not because of Miley or Billy. In any famous family, it’s not their fault. It was what it was” (via Cheat Sheet).

Noah also said that growing up with a famous sister made her lose her identity as a child. “My whole life I was told that I would amount to zero because of what my sister had accomplished for herself. It made it really hard for me to grow up being told you’re going to live in her shadow. Are you Miley Cyrus’s sister? Are you Hannah Montana’s sister? That made me feel like I had no identity as a child,” she admitted. “When I say child, Hannah Montana started before I was seven years old. So by the time I was seven I was asked that my entire life until I decided to make my music, make a name for myself and do my own thing.”

Noah's relationship with Miley is stronger than ever

If you follow the sisters on social media, you already know that despite Miley’s early success as an actress and singer, she and Noah have a pretty close relationship, and the pair both show their support for one another whenever they have new projects coming out. In October last year, the sisters released a version of Noah’s hit song, “I Got So High That I Saw Jesus” — the first time they’ve ever collaborated professionally.

“No one knows how happy and excited Miley and I are to be releasing something TOGETHER for our VERY FIRST TIME!!!! and it’s NOT the last [black heart],” Noah wrote on Instagram (via Entertainment Tonight). “Thank you sissy for singing with me and as always making it sound nothing but effortlessly beautiful. I love you so so much and so happy we get to go through all this crazy s*** together.”

In January, Miley penned a sweet tribute to her “baby sister turned big sister” on her 21st birthday, writing, “The day you were born I never knew that one day the roles would be reversed and you would be the one taking care of me. I couldn’t have gotten here without you. You lead me to making the hard but right decisions. You’ll have many more of those choices in your own life & I am here for you every step of the way” (via E!
