Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip announced their engagement in the summer of 1947. The future monarch was 21 at the time but had been in love with Philip since she was just a teenager.
The couple shared their first dance in public at a ball at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July 1947.
The royals wed on Nov. 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey.
It was shortly after the end of World War II, so Elizabeth used ration coupons to buy the material for her bridal gown, which was designed by Norman Hartnell.
