Rebekah Vardy had ‘no evidence’, says Coleen Rooney’s friend Lizzie Cundy07/30/2022
Lizzie Cundy has spoken out following the verdict that saw Rebekah Vardy lose her libel case against Coleen Rooney.
Friend ofColeen, 36, Lizzie, 54, criticisedRebekah, 40, for having “no evidence” just before the verdict was announced on Friday 29 July.
Rebekah launched legal action after Coleen claimed her fellow WAG'sInstagram account was linked to stories about her leaking to the press.
The seven day-long trial took place back in May and after a wait of over eight weeks, Mrs Justice Karen Steyn has now delivered her verdict – announcing that Rebekah has lost.
In her ruling, the judge said it was “likely” that Rebekah's agent at the time, Caroline Watt “undertook the direct act” of passing the information to The Sun, condemned "vile" trolls who sent abuse after Coleen's initial post and labelled Rebekah's evidence "manifestly inconsistent" with other evidence heard by the court.
Addressing key moments and pieces of evidence from the case, the judge also deemed it "likely" that Rebekah's agent "deliberately dropped her phone in the sea" after an order was made for it to be inspected.
Lizzie said Coleen wanted to be vindicated and she said her friend had issued her famous statement on Instagram because it was in the public interest.
She told GB News: “It wasn't about the money. It was about credibility and she [Rebekah] wanted Coleen to say sorry, and sadly, the girls came to loggerheads and neither were going to back down.”
Lizzie continued: “Rebekah felt she had no choice but to take it on to the bigger court to get an apology and to win this because she was saying she had nothing to do with it.
“But it transpired in the court case she just didn't seem to have the evidence.
“They went back to the history of Rebekah which showed that she leaked stories before.
“Peter Andre had his anatomy all over the front pages and it also came out that she had leaked stories on the fellow teammates of her husband.”
Speaking in an interview during the Breakfast show on GB News, Lizzie added: “And it was so unnecessary and also, you know, she kept blaming everyone else, it's the PR’s fault and then the other story on Peter Andre…”
Lizzie continued: “There were more twists and turns than a Grand Prix race at Monaco."
She added: “Coleen wants to be vindicated. Saying look, I had a good reason to put this out there and it was for the public interest.
“I think the lawyers will be the winners. You'll see them in Barbados with big extensions, I think, after this.”
