Pete Wicks has opened up on how his best friend Sam Thompson is coping after his split from Zara McDermott.

The 31 year old reality star said Sam, 28, has had a “rough ride” in recent weeks after he reportedly discovered Love Island star Zara, 23, had “cheated” on him last year.

Sam recently appeared to attempt to move on from his heartbreak, as he was recently snapped with a mystery woman, and The Only Way Is Essex star Pete opened up on how he is coping.

Pete said: “Although we're from different backgrounds and people assume we wouldn't get on, we do spend a lot of time with each other.

“He's had a rough time recently. If there's one person that is probably worse when it comes to dating than me, it's Sam Thompson.

“Sam overthinks everything – I have never known anyone to overthink like he does.”

He continued to Mail Online: “Sometimes I think he can be too nice. He's made mistakes, he's made a number of them but he's a really, really nice geezer and I think sometimes people try to pull the wool over his eyes.

“It didn't work out for me trying to give things another go… as far as I'm concerned, what goes on between Sam and Zara isn't really my place to say until they come out and openly discuss everything.

“But in my opinion he needs to concentrate on himself and making himself happy. It's been a rough ride for him.

“It's not nice to see someone as down so as what he has been about it but he will bounce back, we all bounce back.”

After Sam’s split from Zara, who recently admitted she “hurt someone”, the Made In Chelsea star moved in with Pete to film a celebrity version of Channel 4 reality series The Circle together.

A source told Mail Online: “Sam has swapped Zara for Pete as his new housemate this week.

“He's been living with Pete in a block of flats filming The Circle with no access to the outside world, which may have come as a relief following his split from Zara."

The insider added: “Sam's bromance with Pete really blossomed during their time together on Celebs Go Dating, so they were more than happy to compete on The Circle as a duo.”

Zara is believed to have enjoyed a rendezvous with "someone in the music industry" when she took part in The X Factor: Celebrity last autumn.

She teamed up with her former Love Island co-stars Wes Nelson, Eyal Booker and Samira Mighty to compete on the show as part of the group No Love Lost.

A source said of her reported unfaithfulness: “Zara cheated on Sam with someone in the music industry. Someone connected to the X Factor.

“Sam is obviously distraught about this. He only found out about it very recently and has escaped for a few days.

“Zara regrets it and feels terrible. She knows it was a huge mistake and is extremely upset.”
