Martin Roberts, 57, revealed some behind-the-scenes information about Homes Under The Hammer, explaining how he likes hotels with a little bit of character when it comes to being on the road. Being a host on the popular BBC show, the presenters and film crews travel up and down the county to find houses with potential for prospective buyers at auction, and sometimes it’s more than just one days work.

We are on a tight budget but I try to get them to pick me places with character

With that in mind, one fan wondered whether the on-screen talent get to choose the accommodation they stay in, putting the question to Martin during his Twitter Q&A.

They asked: “Hi Martin when you travel to places for HUTH do you stay in cheap /expensive hotels or do they let you pick where you stay?”

It wasn’t long before the 57-year-old disclosed his preferences for a couple of nights away.

“We are on a tight budget but I try to get them to pick me places with character,” he explained.

“Even if they’re not luxurious.”

It comes after Martin shared a video on his social of his “breakfast trauma”, after he was disappointed with the way one hotel had made his eggs.

Filming himself sat in the restaurant, he told the camera: “Look at what they’ve done to my poached eggs!

In a previous video, Martin revealed he was in a hotel whilst filming in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in North West Leicestershire, but he wasn’t impressed with the food that he had ordered.

“Why is it covered in weeds?!” he yelled in a whisper.

“Why?! Why would you ruin a perfect egg by putting this stuff on it!”

It comes after he had told fans to prepare for “earth stuttering news”, as he read the newspaper while he was eating.

“There’s a very serious thing going on this morning, it’s the rubbish in the news that you might have missed…” he began.

“This more serious than anything else that’s going on – well not really but it’s quite serious.”

“Are you ready, this might upset you,” he said before flipping the camera around to show a headline that read: “Chilling news: We’re running out of Flakes to go in our 99s.”

Martin came back in view and shook his head: “Yes, the bad news is there’s a shortage of the 99 Flakes that go in ice creams.”

Lost for words, the BBC star actually looked teary as he added: “Not sure how to deal with this news but we’ll get through this together!”

“Deep breaths… it’s going to be OK.”

After he posted the video to his social channels, fans rushed to the comments section to share their opinions on the crisis and offer some support.

“Be strong Martin….you can get through this…..you have the strength!” one giggled.

Another was just as shocked: “No way!! Hope it’s only a temporary setback!!”

“Counselling is available,” a third joked.
