Love Island’s Nathan Massey suffered painful injury one day before stunning wedding to Cara De La Hoyde: ‘It was so swollen and bruised’ – EXCLUSIVE07/08/2019
Love Island winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey have exclusively shared the details of their wedding day with OK! magazine, following a stunning ceremony in Kent.
The couple, who met three years ago on the second series of the hit ITV2 dating show, said “I do” in front of 120 of their closest friends and family at Preston Court Barn in Canterbury after getting engaged last year.
Cara, 29, and Nathan, 27, who are proud parents to 17-month-old son Freddie-George, shared the joy of their big day, with Nathan also revealing that he suffered an injury the day before the wedding.
Nathan almost broke his ankle as he played football with friends one day before the wedding, leaving it swollen and bruised.
Speaking about his pre-wedding injury, Nathan said: “The day before the wedding I was playing football. I was running along and my foot went down a hole and I twisted my ankle. I felt it go and heard something crack.
"Everyone was laughing but I was like: ‘Seriously boys, I’m in bits!’ It was so bruised. All I was thinking was, what if I can’t walk properly tomorrow?

"I had painkillers the morning of the wedding but by the end of the day my foot was so swollen. I don’t think Cara would ever have forgiven me if I’d broken it."
Cara said: “No one wanted to tell me! They were too scared. When my bridesmaid told me what had happened, I thought they were winding me up.”
Following their wedding, the newlyweds said they are “100%” the strongest couple to leave the Love Island villa, with a string of contestants splitting shortly after the show.

Cara said: “We met on the first day, we didn’t sleep with anyone else or go on any other dates. Obviously we split up for a little bit and then we had Fred. I think we were meant to meet.
“Being a parent is the hardest but most rewarding thing in the world, and once you’ve had a kid with someone your bond is so strong because you depend on each other so much. We’re the first winners to get married. We’re proof the show can work."
She added: “When we met I never thought we’d get married. I wasn’t sure if we’d work on the outside, which is crazy to look back at now. We are made for each other. The split was the best thing for us at the time, it made us stronger.”
