Gethin Jones, 43, spoke of his romance with Katherine Jenkins, 41, whilst chatting with Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse, 31. The conversation happened on her podcast Rhythm of Life last week.
She was super high profile and I hadn’t experienced any kind of fame.
The episode saw the presenter discuss his time on Strictly in 2007, before taking on a role in hit spin-off It Takes Two.
The Strictly professional asked Gethin what he took from his time in the hit show.
Gethin said: “I had hardly worn makeup before, I didn’t really know what telly was. I was really naive.”
This will surprise many fans, as he has been a regular face on our screens for many years.
Gethin continued: “It was weird for me as I met someone as you know on the show and that was bizarre, because she was super high profile and I hadn’t experienced any kind of fame.
“I had gone from Blue Peter to the biggest show on telly dating, you know, a world famous singer.
“I took a lot of self confidence from being able to express myself dancing but everything sort of changed with this relationship developing.”
Gethin took part in series five of the show, during which time Katherine performed on the programme.
Before this, he was presenting on Blue Peter and was met with tremendous fame due to the show.
In December 2007 he became romantically involved with the Opera singing beauty.
It was reported the pair met whilst Katherine and Andrea Bocelli sang Time to Say Goodbye on the show.
The couple got engaged in February 2011, however on December 30 of the same year it was announced they had gone their separate ways.
Katherine is now married to American painter, Andrew Levitas and has been since 2014.
Gethin was clear in the podcast there were good elements to come out of his time in Strictly.
He said: “I can’t say it’s not still affected me in some ways but I like to think I came out of it okay.
“I could have gone down a very different path.”
In 2020 Gethin began presenting the BBC1 show, Morning Live, 5 days a week.
Oti said to him: “You went from peoples TV every Saturday night to peoples TV every weekday on Morning Live.”
They then joked together about the 12 years in between the shows that Oti left out.
Oti is currently the reigning champion, having won the last two series with Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey.
Strictly Come Dancing is due to start in Autumn 2021.
