Dr Alex George and Dr Hilary Jones strip off to promote body confidence08/21/2019
Love Island’s Dr Alex George and presenter Dr Hilary Jones have stripped off to promote body confidence.
They’ve got their kit off for a good cause.
The pair were pictured rocking the shirtless look on the beach as they advocated for male mental health surrounding body image and discouraged the use of labels like ‘dad bod’.
Dr Hilary warned against the dangers of labels, saying: ‘With labels like “Dad Bod” you’ve got to be so careful. I think people underestimate how damaging it can be to a person’s self-confidence when you label them a certain way.
‘In my time as a GP, I’ve seen a rise in patients suffering from anxiety and confidence issues which can often be influenced by their feelings around body-image.
He added: ‘It’s completely natural to want to change something about your body. However, it’s important to remember that the ‘ideal’ male body that you see on screen is often completely unrealistic.
‘Aside from the fact that nowadays everything is edited and airbrushed, these impractical high-protein diets and intense workouts can actually be quite harmful for your body in the long run. As long as you’re healthy, it shouldn’t matter how you look.’
The campaign, in partnership with On The Beach, is based on research that 93% of men admitted to wanting to change their bodies.
Despite being used to stripping off after his time on Love Island, Dr Alex didn’t have the easiest time on the show, being attacked by trolls over his behaviour in the villa and his sunburn.
The star recently gave advice to Jordan Hames and Michael Griffiths, who came under fire on this year’s series, about dealing with online abuse.
‘The important thing is to come out and say, “I made a mistake, people do make mistakes”,’ he continued.
Meanwhile, out of this year’s Love Islanders, he reckons Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague are set to go the distance
‘Tommy and Molly-Mae have the strongest chance of lasting, they’ve been together the longest,’ he said.
