Sir Billy Connolly has admitted he’s been sending Christmas cards to the wrong address in East Kilbride for years and will continue to do so despite learning that the intended recipient has moved home. The 78-year-old comedian spoke of the mix up during an appearance at the Edinburgh TV festival earlier this month.

Billy explained that he was walking down the street when he was stopped by a couple who turned out to be the new residents.

“The guy said, ‘Are you Billy Connolly?’ I said, ‘Yeah,’ and then he said, ‘You send me a Christmas card every year.’ I said, ‘I do?’

“It was a banjo player friend who lived in East Kilbride who I sent the card to but he had moved and I didn’t know.”

The Scottish star went on to say that he would continue to send festive greetings to the couple.

Billy continued: “He said, ‘Will you keep sending it?’ I said, ‘Sure,’ and he’s still on the list.”

At the festival, the comic was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.

In a rare interview with his wife Pamela Stephenson, he later quipped “I feel I should be dead.

“These lifetime things, I feel like they know something that I don’t.”

Billy, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013, also gave an update on his health.

He said everything was a new challenge to him.

“Well, the challenges lately have been medical, aye, they’re getting worse.

“Have you noticed I’ve been holding my left hand as we have been going on? It is starting to jump around.

“I will have to weigh it up and see how bad it gets. Play it by ear.”

Earlier this month, Billy’s wife shared a clip of the actor reading out an excerpt from his autobiography.

Billy Connolly: Windswept and Interesting is set for release later this year.

In the footage, which Pamela shared with her 71,400 Twitter followers, the author spoke about sex.

He admitted that being a “funny guy” always got in the way.

“My wife’s a sexologist,” he began.

“How can you study something that only lasts seven seconds,” he joked.

Billy, who married Pamela in 1989, went on to say that he had never been very good at chatting women up.

Billy Connolly: Windswept and Interesting will be available on October 12, 2021.
