Adrian Chiles, 54, has spoken out on his participation in ITV’s The Chase ahead of the airing of Channel 4’s Taskmaster New Year’s Eve special. The TV presenter admitted he could not concentrate on the answers which led to a key mistake.
Speaking about the way he portrays himself on television, Adrian said he does not pay too much attention to the way he looks.
He explained: “I’ve never really cared how I look, which is probably to my detriment in television, but it served me well here.
“I looked an absolute twit on Celebrity Chase.
“I started looking at the clock instead of concentrating on the answers, then I literally couldn’t remember anything by the end.”
But Adrian made one specific mistake in his answers that may cause some disappointment.
Adrian continued: “There was one question which was, ‘Who told the parable of the wheat?’ I couldn’t remember it. I remember thinking, ‘It can’t be Jesus, that’s too obvious.’
“Of course, it was. My priest is going to be p***ed off about that when I next see him.”
According to Adrian his girlfriend will not be too pleased either after watching the special.
The TV star said his nasal hair is visible in a close-up shot and his partner will not be happy about it.
“My girlfriend always warns me about nasal hair,” he said.
“She’s going to give me a right b*****king because she’ll be furious at the fact I had a hair coming out my right nostril in one of the close-ups.
“She’s going to have my guts for garters.”
The former Daybreak star was previously married to radio personality Jane Garvey from 1998 to 2009.
The former couple share two children – Evelyn Katarina, 21, and Sian Mary, 18.
The stellar lineup of the Taskmaster special will also include Claudia Winkleman, Paralympian Jonnie Peacock, rapper Lady Leshurr and former Conservative Cabinet Minister Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.
Last year’s special featured Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host Rylan Clark, actress Nicola Coughlan, actor John Hannah, news anchor Guru-Murthy and Strictly judge Shirley Ballas.
Taskmaster has become a Channel 4 staple thanks to its success among game show lovers.
So much so that the broadcaster commissioned it for six new series in 2019.
The programme has since released its own board game and two books.
Other countries have come up with their own versions of the show, including Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand.
